This Nanaimo kitchen remodel combines natural maple cabinetry, concrete-inspired quartz surfaces and matte black details to create a chic and sophisticated modern interior.

Classic Kitchens & Design kitchen designer Darryl collaborated with the Interior Design Group to carry a consistent cabinetry design throughout the kitchen, laundry room, fireplace and living area.

Natural Maple Slab Cabinetry

The kitchen was designed using Merit Kitchens’ Icehouse slab maple doors and Tofino Slab one-piece solid MDF doors.

The kitchen and laundry room cabinetry is finished in a Natural stain, highlighting the warmth and character of the maple. The clean slab doors give the cabinetry a streamlined modern appearance while allowing the natural wood grain to remain a prominent design feature.

Ceiling-Height Kitchen Cabinets

The cabinetry in the kitchen and laundry room extends to the ceiling and is completed with a flat riser at the top.

This creates a clean, built-in appearance while maximizing storage and eliminating unused space above the cabinetry.

Custom Kitchen Storage

Function was an important consideration throughout this kitchen remodel.

A Super Susan and two L-shaped corner shelves make better use of difficult corner spaces. Rollout shelves in the island improve access to stored items, while an oil and spice pullout beside the cooktop keeps frequently used ingredients close at hand.

A tall pullout with adjustable shelves provides flexible storage for a range of kitchen essentials.

Caesarstone Quartz Countertops

Cloudburst Concrete quartz by Caesarstone was used throughout the renovation.

Its concrete-inspired appearance and suede finish introduce subtle texture while complementing the natural maple cabinetry and matte black details.

The countertops were supplied and fabricated by VI Granite & Quartz Countertops.

Matte Black Fireplace Built-Ins

The fireplace built-ins combine Merit Kitchens cabinetry finished in New Black matte paint with Natural stained maple accents.

The contrast between matte black and warm wood creates a strong focal point while connecting the living area to the finishes used throughout the kitchen remodel.

Hardware, Lighting and Finishing Details

Matte black contemporary metal pulls from Richelieu Hardware coordinate with the fireplace cabinetry and reinforce the home’s modern design.

Additional details include opaque glass cabinet doors, integrated strip lighting, a tile backsplash, maple melamine cabinet cases and a built-in desk area.

Full-extension dovetailed drawer boxes and soft-close hinges add durability and improve everyday use.
